If there’s one all time loved recipe on Weelicious it’s Banana Dog Bites. I think I first made these 6 or 7 years ago and they’re still an all time classic. What’s not to love about a recipe that only uses 3 ingredients, take 2 minutes or less to prepare and looks like such fun.

Even though there are only three ingredients, there’s tons of variations you can use. I like using spelt or half whole wheat half corn tortillas I get at Trader Joes, but you can also use all white flour tortillas or something with seeds inside. The most important part is getting something that’s really flexible. Corn could work, but they would need to be really fresh. Using lavash is a fun idea too!

There’s also plenty of variations with nut butters. You can use peanut, almond, cashew, soy or sun butter. You could also use whipped cream cheese in a pinch. If you’re using large tortillas and bananas it makes about 8-10 pieces which look super cute in a bento style lunchbox. Serve these with some raw veggies and maybe a little snack like a Vegan Cowgirl Cookie or Heart-Shaped Rice Crispy Treat and you’ve got a vegetarian meal I’m betting your kids will love!

  1. My mom used to make these when we were younger and she would also spread applesauce and warm it up in the microwave for our “after school snack”, yum!

  2. We do this a lot at my house. We LOVE peanut butter and banana. And if you don’t have tortillas, just flatten a piece of bread with a rolling pin or glass. YUM!

  3. My friend’s mom used to make these all the time when we were little – but she didn’t cut them, and they were dubbed “banana burritos.” 🙂

  4. Hmmm, I haven’t tried to freeze them. Anyone else? I will give it a roll tomorrow and tell you!

  5. YES…I have bananas, sunflower butter, and ww tortillas. I am making these today! Would they freeze well?

  6. I make a similar banana roll-up, WW Tortilla, PB, Honey, Corn Flakes, and a banana sliced length-wise. Love them!

  7. I’ve been making these every day for my own lunch lately! Sometimes I use Nutella instead of peanut butter when I want a super yummy treat. I actually just tried Nutella for the first time last week and oh my am I in love. I haven’t given any to my kids though because I’m afraid they’ll never let me give them anything else again =).

  8. I make these all the time for my kids. They love them. Sometimes I will use Nutella, cream cheese and jelly, but either way they love that they can just pick them up with their fingers and pop them in their mouth!

  9. My mom use to make these for us as a treat using crustless bread. My kid is definitely getting these for lunch today. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, and for the great idea!

  10. You can also dust them with some crushed Vitamin C tablets to add a little vitamin power AND prevent browning. =)
