When you have a baby you hope and expect that they will come out perfect in every way. You pray that everything you eat and do while your baby is in utero affects them in a positive way. I basically thought about this for 10 long months with each of my three pregnancies. I call these my crazy pants. I strap them on tight and don’t take them off until I’m holding my sweet babies in my arms.

With Kenya and Chloe I never had a day where I worried about them having food allergies as they never showed any signs of sensitives. I offered every food under the sun so they could enjoy a wide variety and they never had any reactions. With Gemma, though, it has been a different story. From the day she was born her skin was irritated and dry from eczema which was inevitably part of her diagnosis.

We went to several allergists, I cut everything from dairy to gluten to sugar out of my diet for 5 long months. We finally discovered one of the causes being an egg allergy, but her eczema still hasn’t totally disappeared. There’s nothing more heart breaking than watching your child itch non stop whenever her clothes are off. Aside from changing my diet so my breastmilk is free of the foods we know are triggers, taking long warm baths and lubing her up with tons of moisturizing creams, there was little we could do to alleviate her pain.

Comments

  1. We use Seventh Generation detergent and love it! Haven’t tried any of their other products but would love to!

  2. Free & clear everything! Don’t you love how products geared towards infants are loaded with chemical perfumes & colors? We’ve been using Seventh Generation products for years & hope to continue to for many years to come.

  3. We fought eczema with our first. We put oils in the baths and were very careful on diet which helped.

  4. We’ve fought eczema with all 3 of our kids! (We also have food allergies.) Unscented everything seems to help…and cotton pjs…and definitely moisturizing post bath.

  5. I found using a humidifier helps tremendously! Also, I’m a big fan of coconut oil on the skin.

  6. Like you with my twin girls I never worried about their skin or foods which I ate now with my 7 week old Baby boy I am extremely conscious. He was just diagnosed with eczema and I am keeping his skin moisturized with acquaphor and experimenting with products that may be good for him. A very stressful process to be going through as you want your babies to be pain free at all times.

  7. I give less frequent baths to keep my son’s skin moist, I use natural washes, and I rub coconut oil on his body.

  8. My son has eczema, after a long try of train and error tge 7th gen are the only products that do not irritate his skin and the bubble bath with an olive oil base does wonders for my daughters cradel cap!
